Chega! is the title of the five-volume report of the Timor-Leste truth commission. Chega is portuguese for 'no more, stop, enough.' It is the single word that best summaries the earnest wish and hopes for an end to violance and impunity that victims and witnesses wanted the Comission to convey to Timor Leste, Indonesia and the international community. Chega! reports on CAVR's work, the history of Timor Leste 1974-1999, including its international dimensions, and violations commited by all parties before and during the 24 years of the Indonesian occupation. The report also includes findings on responsibility and recommendations designed to help victims, prevent a recurrence of past practices, halt impunity and promote human rights and peace. This volume comprises the Commission's mandate, the history of the conflict, the regime of occupation and the structure and strategy of the Resistance. It concludes with a profile of violations commited 1974-1999.
