Abstrak

This books provides a wide variety of ideas and activities using the popular words associated with each letter. The ideas for each letter encourage teachers to introduce as many words as possible that start with a particular letter (initial consonant or vowel.) Initial blends (two or three consonants grouped together) can be introduced later as the children progress. When teaching the initial consonants, it is important to know that some letters have one sound (phoneme)(i.e.,L,N,P), while other letters represent more than one sound (i.e.,A,E,I,O,U,C,G). This resource book's main focus is to enchance reading readiness skills by enforcing initial consonant knowledge and initial sound knowledge. However, the activities naturally develop a child's langguage, vocabulary and fine motor skills, as well as incorporate ideas that expose children to mathematical concepts and science properties. The ideas and acitivities support the child's growth across the five development domains (communication, adaptive, motor/physical, cognitive, and social/personal/emotional).
