Abstrak

Flores: Adventure Trails" is the third publication from the WISATA project, which focuses on sustainable tourism on the island of Flores. True to the motto "explore the extraordinary", this trekking manual is intended to motivate visitors - from leisure hikers to ambitious mountaineers - to to discover the natural beauties of the island on untouched paths. Before the trekking routes are presented, readers are introduced to the geography, history and culture of the island, find out important travel information and useful tips on the cultural customs. The 25 described short to multi-day routes between Komodo National Park in western Flores and the eastern island of Adonara take travelers through savannas, tropical rainforest, past waterfalls and impressive crater lake landscapes to the peaks of active volcanoes. The most important information is clearly laid out to help you reach your destination safely and comfortably: Duration and level of difficulty, altitude, highlights, food options, information on dangers and special features and contact details for guides. The simple maps that are available for almost every route are not professional signposts, but do provide a good overview of the routes and the surrounding area. The route descriptions are enriched by attractively illustrated and informative chapters on flora and fauna. With its diversity of bird species - including numerous endemic and endangered species - Flores is a paradise for bird watchers. Since trekking and bird watching are perfectly compatible, a separate chapter is dedicated to this topic. Thanks to the regional division, those interested in ornithology can easily find out which species can be encountered along the way. As part of a sustainable tourism project, environmental protection and ecological responsibility are very important in this publication. Readers are repeatedly advised to be particularly careful with the treasures of this extraordinary island.
